Opti-Port, LLC, a national alliance of eye care providers, recently concluded its fourth annual managed care conference in Chicago. The 2015 workshop boasted a record number of attendees that included senior management, doctors, and billing teams from Opti-Port member organizations that own and manage over 400 office locations throughout the United States.
“Each year, this conference provides a unique venue for me and my staff to consult with other multi-office groups and to tackle the challenges and opportunities of managed vision care,” said Aaron Schubach, an Opti-Port member and president of Standard Optical, headquartered in Salt Lake City. “With the pending ICD-10 changeover, this year’s workshop was essential in preparing my team for the October 1 change.”
Dr. John Rumpakis, president and CEO of Practice Resource Management, Inc. kicked off the program with a comprehensive assessment of the staff requirements and practical implications of implementing the ICD-10 changeover. Using multiple clinical examples he demonstrated how to handle coding and compliance issues to speed reimbursement and to avoid rejected claims and potential red flags.
In addition to Dr. Rumpakis’s presentation, attendees participated in member-led discussions to uncover best practices related to Medicaid services and scheduling, internal processes for scrubbing claims, and how to optimize practice efficiency and accuracy within various managed vision care plans. Key carrier updates were presented by Spectera, EyeMed and VSP, and Dr. Joe Wende, Zeiss Vision, provided an assessment of new and pending legislation related to managed care.
The Opti-Port membership will next gather at the organization’s SPARK Conference in Las Vegas, September 16, one day prior to Vision Expo West. This year’s conference theme “Managing Change in a Multi-Office Practice” will also feature breakout sessions on hiring, training, and preparing for a meaningful use audit.
Founded in 2001, Opti-Port is a national alliance of leading eye care providers that leverages the combined strength of its members to provide them with revenue growth strategies as well as cost-saving and market-expanding opportunities.
